UNIVERSAL LAW OF ‘SEEK, YE SHALL FIND’
Sir,
It has been said that desire denotes a real longing or craving. Wallace D. Wattles says; “every desire is the effort of an unexpressed possibility to come into action. It is power seeking to manifest which causes desire. That which makes you want more money is the same as that which makes the plant grow; it is life seeking fuller expression.” To clarify this concept I will give an example. Imagine your phone rings. Unless and until you press the yes button, the voice of your friend won’t come through to you.
Effort
So it is with desire, it is the effort of an unexpressed possibility to come to action. So if you do not act on your desire nothing happens in your life. The universal law of ‘seek, ye shall find’ appears to be premised on the law of desire. Desire sparks the seeking. That magic spark, desire, has its seat in the heart not the mind. The powers expressed in human affairs such as success in business affairs, the homes where love, peace and harmony are the order of the day, and other human productions, are all manifestations of and begin with desire. The more desire you have for a thing, the more you love it; and the more you love it, the greater will be the attractive force exerted towards its attainment – both within and outside yourself.
Productive
The most productive man, disciplines himself and focuses his desire on one subject matter. And some of us who are underachievers may be lacking that discipline. We desire one thing, the next moment we desire the second thing, the next day we desire the third thing, and the following week we desire the fourth thing, hence at the end of the day we remain the same with less accomplished. This mental prostitution, and lack of firmness of mind, accounts for so much failure in our lives. We actually set our own thermostat as to the gradations of the outcomes of our lives. The more we desire, the more apt the achievement.
Choices
Desire seems to be interlinked with our moral agency. What we end up attaining at the end of the day is dependent on the choices we make. At the conception of our choices lies desire. What we choose is based on what we desire most. The spark of desire can begin change. A wretched man who finds himself in undesirable circumstances, like the prodigal son, because of his choices, may desire himself out of the dungeon basement of life and aspire for loftier spheres of a glorious habitation. In this account, we see that the winds of desire could shove a man from the lows of zero to the heights of hero. Reality requires that we acknowledge the responsibility of our desires.
