IF THERE WAS POLITICAL WILL
Sir,
Thank you for the opportunity to voice out my two cents’ worth of advice on way forward to the crisis engulfing the only country we have. Eswatini is blessed with an abundant educated talent, some idle and others benefitting in other countries. These individuals are making a meaningful impact in those countries’ economies. Ours is a very small economy to manage, if there was a political will, Eswatini’s ills could be turned around in one week.
To solve a problem one must first acknowledge and accept that there is a problem. No justifying and apportioning blame, that won’t help us.
Budget
In Eswatini a big chunk of the entire budget goes for the tendering process. Look around and you will see overnight multimillionaires mushrooming. The government tendering process is susceptible to corruption and seemingly people involved in it are untouchable. Suppose our leadership decided enough was enough and they wanted this solved once and for all, this is where solving the ills of the country in a week comes in. This is done in the private sector with much success, so there is no reason why it can’t be done in government.
Eswatini has capable and competent individuals, who could help effect this as soon as possible. And I would volunteer my services, free of charge, if asked to help. In the meantime, we need to charge all those who have helped and made sure that the tendering process is manipulated. This would not take long to do. All of the aforementioned could be done in seven days, if we wanted, and wait for the dates in courts and in the meantime put the correct policy and procedures in place to stop the rot. If we could recover all the money stolen through the tendering process Eswatini would find itself on the highway to financial stability. For the country to seriously get out of this mess there must be political will to eradicate poor governance.
