SAYING YOU LOVE SOMETHING ISN’T ENOUGH
Sir,
The Oxford dictionary defines passion as a very strong feeling of love, hatred, anger, enthusiasm et etcetera. Love is the strong feeling of enjoyment that something gives you, be it music, art, poetry, nature or learning. Enthusiasm is the strong feeling of excitement and interest in something and a desire to become involved in it. In the past few years of my life, one of the best things I have learnt is the power of being passionate about something you do or love. Many of us usually say, ‘I love school’, or ‘I love my job’. But saying you love something isn’t enough for you to master or achieve it.
Emotions
Most of the time we are told that things are easier said than done. If you truly love something and you want to be great in it, you will have to move from just expressing your emotions towards it and go deeper into showing how much you want it and how far are you willing to go to achieve it. Start by making achieving your goal or mastering your skill your first priority. Make earning those great credits at school, finishing that degree course or earning that promotion or whatever else is important to you, something that you fantasise about every day. Make it the reason you wake up every morning to take a step closer towards it until you nail it. Talk about it to your friends and family, write about it in your diary as often as you can.
Obsessed
Let everyone think you’re obsessed about it and careless about any negativity they throw at you. Be confident and proud of whatever you want and believe in yourself even if no one does. Those who try to stand in your way should be frightened by your passion towards your goal. Do not make them think they can stop you from attaining your achievements. We are all capable of achieving whatever we truly desire. It is a matter of how badly you want it, how important it is to you and how much time you are willing to put in for it. Passion, hard work, determination and consistency are always key in achieving personal goals. Every single day you have to work like your life depends on it. Tyler Perry once said; “It doesn’t matter how much money you have, if you truly want to achieve something and keep up with this fast life, always work like you’re broke.” Our paths usually reveal themselves in the course of life. When you really know what you want to do with your life, when you find something you must do, that is when you must lock in and say ‘this is it’.
Results
That is when you tell yourself ‘I’m all in’. So give your best, give everything you have to get the best possible results. Even if it doesn’t work out at that time you were hoping it would, at least you will have the pride of knowing you gave it your best shot. At worst, you would have also learned as much as you needed along the way. Those who are committed to learn more in life will almost always be the same people who earn more and become more. Life does not owe you anything, create it. Do it, be it and live it.
