FREEDOM OF SPEECH SUPERFICIAL
Madam,
One could have predicted the outcome of the case of the former MPs. From the word go, the scale of justice tilted on one side, from them being denied bail, countless times. They say pride comes before destruction.
In the book of life under the verse Ecclesiastes 12:14 “for God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing whether good or bad”. I believe in my heart He will also bring every order made in secret, predetermined judgments without due legal process. He also says under the book of life under Romans 12:19 do not take revenge, my dear friends but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “ it is mine to avenge; I will repay”, says the Lord.
I believe the reason other members of Parliament kept quiet and never said or questioned what was happening to their colleagues, is that they pit their trust and confidence in man. In the book of Psalms 143:3-4 do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save. 4 when their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on the very day their plans come to nothing. This judgment will go down in history as the judgment that proved to the world and international community that freedom of speech, opinion and expression in Eswatini and even our national legislation is not worth the paper it’s written on.
Tom Bingham in his book “The Rule of Law” says “Where the rule of law prevails, nobody is above the law. The government too must answer to it in everything it does. Not only can’t the government violate the law with impunity. It also can’t casually change the law to exempt itself”. For example, the banning of the delivery of petitions. “When the law no longer protects you from the corrupt, but protects the corrupt from you know that your nation is doomed”. The question remains are we all governed by the same law?
