VIRGINITY GRANT COULD PROMOTE ABSTINENCE

Sir,

If virginity lasts for a night, then how many nights are there before a girl reaches the age of 20 or before she is ready for marriage? How do you survive this long; I mean how possible is it to abstain until you get married?  This is really walking on thin ice and it has come to my attention that virgin girls, I repeat virgin girls, above the age of 18 should at least get a grant of about E2 500 each. This could encourage and promote abstinence.

Preventing

Numerous measures of preventing STIs, early pregnancy, HIV and Aids have been taken, but not even a single method has ever been applied to promote abstinence. Why are we so ignorant? Why do we believe in curing instead of preventing? I mean is curing better than preventing? Do you all realise that abstinence can be the cure of the highly infectious HIV and Aids not to mention all the STIs and early pregnancy. What is the possible implemented or implementing way to promote abstinence thus far? The Umhlanga ceremony, one may say. Is it? Maybe it was, but not nowadays. Do not get me wrong but countless number of immoral girls who have committed abortion, who have kids and also who have had sexual intercourse numerous times, attend the Umhlanga ceremony.

Pride

This implies that inasmuch as the ceremony serves a display of as pride and beauty of the Swati girls, it does not really promote abstinence; believe me, a grant will do. Let the government grease our pride, the Swati virgin girls, with silver. Why are we so stingy? I thought we love our girls so much. The country does not have money, where will this cumbersome amount of funds come from? This is what most people might argue. I guess the curing drugs are more expensive than this. Not to mention, the less number of orphans the country will record since the children will be born in marriage the fathers will not join the marathon and decide to sublime to the thin air. Moreover do not be deceived; you might find that only twenty girls can get this grant in the whole country. Do not confuse abstinence with prevention and family planning. With intercourse, unfortunately there are less consequences due to the prevention methods like condoms, implants, withdrawal, injections, patches, oral contraceptive pills, vaginal rings etc. I cannot stress this enough only virgin girls above the age of 18 will be compensated.

Furthermore, abstinence till the age of 18 and above does not necessarily guarantee you that you will have a good husband or get married. At this very age you can still be exploited by an irresponsible man. This fact nullifies the abstaining power. If you can still be used, played, even cheated on or unwedded at this very age, then your abstinence has been nothing but a waste. Again, this is where the grant will intervene. At least the effort will not be in vain.

Abstinence

Contrary to what they are doing in South Africa. There, it is the kid that gets the grant. If that’s the case then, in my stupidity, it does not promote abstinence but sexual intercourse without a condom or should I say without any prevention for that matter, in order to get a grant. This increases the sexual appetite and also propels the infection of STIs. Let us stick to abstinence and promote it in the best possible way. This will not only cure the country but it will also cure the sins of the country. Thank you.
