TO ESWATINI YOUTH; ‘BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT’

Sir,

Thank you for allowing me space to give the youth of Eswatini my two cents worth advice. There is evolution, which involves the changing of time and the continuity of life. Evolutionary biologists can agree with me that with proper, either natural or artificial selection, more adaptive and advanced offspring are brought to life.

Future

Franklin D Roosevelt once said; “We cannot always build the future for the youth, but we can build our youth for the future.” To grow responsible folk, more advanced and responsible, there are certain involvements which must be put in place. The environment in which a species is bred, influences its growth directly or indirectly. One wouldn’t sow a seed in the shade and expect germination. Proper caution should be taken, like providing sunlight for the seed to germinate, thus blossoming and bearing more fruits in return.

Likewise, the same concept applies in bringing up a child; a conducive society will harbour and instil good morals and values in one’s mind. I challenge the youth to contemplate deeply when choosing the kinds of cohorts they hang around with, because they are their best reflection. As it takes two to tango, then be selective with the one you tango with; because from that comes a peasant or president.  I cannot over emphasise the importance of time management, the impacts of being nonchalant about it are dire; self-blame, contrition and grief.
Contrary to this, managing time effectively can bring tremendous benefits like fulfillment, peace of mind and satisfaction.

Productive

The time for a young person to be more productive and influential is during the youthful stage of their lives. One anonymous motivational speaker said; “The activities that one executes during their youthful stage will determine their long lasting anguish or pleasure in the next 50 or 60 years of their life. My question would be, are the actions that one take befitting a ‘prosperous future’? I’m saddened when I see today’s youth being engulfed by substance abuse. I sit back and wonder ‘when is this person going to build a solid foundation for their future’? In essence, time waits for no man, so fellow youth let’s put it upon ourselves to use our  time wisely, accountably and substantially.

Decisions

From the beginning of time, it has been proven that making hasty and impetuous decisions has led to life changing mistakes. I will refer to the story of Adam and Eve. If it was not for indecisiveness we wouldn’t be talking of blue-collar today. What I want the youth to derive from this to learn to be patient with one’s self. After all it does not take a hard core physician to understand that patience is virtue because all good and righteousness come to all who wait patiently upon the Lord. I will sum up my words of advice with the importance of decision-making. For every decision taken, there is a consequence, either good or bad. And remember, Nelson Mandela once said; “Be the change you want.”
