GET RID OF SOCIALISM
Sir,
There was an old socialist saying in the whole of the former Soviet Empire: ‘They pretend to pay us and we pretend to work’. This is about the best description of the situation in the civil service in our country. This is true for most of teachers and the members of the security forces. Teachers and schools are forever not ready to open schools in time. Many have two jobs, others a boyfriend to supplement the income. Life isn’t bad at all for a lot of them.
Corruption
The current prime minister does understand that the low productivity of the State sector poses a huge problem - but he doesn’t want or cannot address corruption. With most corrupt employees, the problem started already with the way they got the job, through buying it or nepotism. China doesn’t say this publicly: They only got powerful and successful after getting rid of socialism in most parts of the economy.
