SILOLO’S COURAGEOUS DECISION
Sir
I would like to express my thoughts and congratulations regarding the recent decision made by Thandaza Silolo to step away from active politics and embrace a path of faith and prayer.
His announcement, as shared on social media, is a significant moment not just for him, but for our society as a whole. It is vital to reflect on the implications of his choice and the wisdom embedded in his journey.
Silolo’s declaration that ‘‘You cannot stand against authorities and succeed’’ resonates deeply in a world where dissent is often celebrated without consideration of the consequences. His choice to rise above the fray of political conflict in favour of a faith-driven approach is both commendable and inspiring. As the ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu wisely noted, ‘‘A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.’’
Decision
Silolo’s decision marks a pivotal step towards a more peaceful and meaningful existence. His candid acknowledgment of God’s call to abandon alcohol, something he once cherished, reveals a remarkable level of vulnerability and strength. It is said that ‘to know oneself is to know the universe’, and Silolo’s journey towards self-awareness and spiritual awakening is a profound lesson for us all. He has embraced the idea that true freedom often lies not in rebellion, but in submission to a higher authority. By doing so, he embodies the sentiment that ‘sometimes the most productive thing you can do is relax.’
In relinquishing the urge to fight against authority, he has found a way to channel his energy productively through prayer and reflection. Silolo’s reference to Romans 13:1-2 is particularly significant. The scripture reads, “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established.” This biblical principle encapsulates the essence of his message: While authority may not always be just, it serves a purpose in the divine order. His commitment to pray for those in power instead of contesting them is a path that reflects the famous words of Mother Teresa: “Peace begins with a smile.”
Prayer
Silolo’s choice to focus on prayer rather than protest, serves as a powerful example of how we can engage with authority in a constructive manner. It is important to acknowledge that Silolo’s decision does not imply indifference to the pressing issues our society faces. His awareness of ongoing problems, such as corruption and the lack of resources in hospitals, demonstrates that even as he steps away from political activism, his heart remains with the people. This underscores the notion that ‘just because you are not fighting does not mean you are not caring.’ Silolo’s compassion for the common good will undoubtedly guide his efforts in this new chapter of his life.
Responsible
The response from Ingiphile Dlamini, the acting Spokesperson for SWALIMO, further highlights the importance of Silolo’s contributions to the movement. Dlamini’s statement of support reminds us that ‘the best way to predict the future is to create it.’ By choosing a path of prayer and service, Silolo is actively shaping a future rooted in peace and understanding, a future we all can strive for. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Silolo for his courageous decision. His journey serves as a poignant reminder that ‘the greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall’. May he find joy, purpose and peace in his new path, and may his story inspire others to reflect on their own journeys towards a more harmonious existence.
