SIBAYA, BEST MODEL FOR THE WORLD

Sir,

From Eswatini to the world at large, the sibaya (People’s Parliament) is a beacon of hope for inclusive decision making, promoting transparency and citizen participation in an open dialogue between the public and government. This innovative approach inspires long-lasting policy solutions that benefit everyone.

As His Majesty King Mswati III, so eloquently stated at the World Governments Summit in Dubai on February 11, 2025: “The choices and decisions we make as governments today will define the destiny of our nations for generations to come.”

This profound statement underscores the importance of collective action to build a better future for all.
To achieve this vision, the King highlighted four essential ingredients that must be prioritised: Learning from others, fostering innovation and digital inclusivity, championing sustainable development and strengthening global partnerships.

Learning from others
The ability to learn from others is a vital component of progress. By sharing experiences, knowledge and best practices, nations can adapt and grow, avoiding the mistakes of the past and building on the successes of others. This exchange of ideas and information can help create more effective policies and solutions, tailored to the unique needs of each community.

Fostering innovation and digital inclusivity
Innovation is the lifeblood of progress, driving economic growth, improving lives and solving complex problems.
However, this innovation must be accompanied by digital inclusivity, ensuring that everyone has access to the resources and opportunities needed to thrive in the digital age. By bridging the digital divide, governments and organisations can unlock the full potential of their citizens, driving economic growth and social development.

Championing sustainable development
The fate of our planet hangs in the balance and it is imperative that we prioritise sustainable development to protect the environment and natural resources for future generations. This requires a commitment to responsible practices, renewable energy sources and eradicating the unsustainable habits that threaten our very existence.

Strengthening global partnerships
Finally, the importance of strengthening global partnerships cannot be overstated. In an increasingly interconnected world, nations must work together to address the pressing challenges we face, from climate change to economic inequality.

By fostering co-operation, mutual understanding and collective action, we can create a more just, peaceful and prosperous world for all. In conclusion, shaping a brighter future requires a commitment to these four essential ingredients.

By learning from others, fostering innovation and digital inclusivity, championing sustainable development and strengthening global partnerships, we can build a world that is more just, equitable and peaceful – a world that we can be proud to leave for future generations.
