Enhancing social protection programmes

Government has also committed to expanding access to social grants for other vulnerable groups, including orphans and persons with disabilities.This is an important move, as it acknowledges the need to support those who are unable to fully participate in the labour market and ensures that they have access to essential services and support.

Infrastructure development and job creation

Eswatini’s infrastructure has long been in need of modernisation and expansion. Roads, public transport systems, electricity and water supply systems are all critical to the nation’s development. In his budget speech, Rijkenberg highlighted government’s intention to significantly invest in infrastructure development, particularly in rural areas where infrastructure is often lacking. The allocation for infrastructure projects aims to address these deficits by improving transportation networks, expanding electricity access and improving water supply systems.

Strengthening the agricultural sector

Agriculture remains a cornerstone of Eswatini’s economy, with a significant portion of the population relying on farming for their livelihood. Rijkenberg’s budget speech recognises the importance of agriculture and outlines measures to support and strengthen the sector. The budget allocates funding for agricultural modernisation, including the provision of better seeds, fertilisers and equipment for farmers.
