WHO WILL PROTECT THEM?

Sir,

I am writing to express my deep concern and dismay regarding the recent reports of child rape in our nation. The situation unfolding is not only unfortunate and disheartening, but also a grave violation of basic human rights.
These children are not only being subjected to sexual violence, but are also deprived of proper shelter, education and are trapped in poverty without adequate protection. It is distressing to consider the implications of such conditions on the future generation.

Angry

Are we breeding a generation that sees engaging in sexual activities with older men for money as normal? Or are we witnessing an angry generation of women who have experienced abuse at the hands of those meant to protect them?
The saying ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ seems far removed from the reality of this generation, where innocent children are preyed upon by men, as if they were mere objects of desire.

Exploit

The core issue lies on how men exploit the vulnerability of women in general. While perpetrators may argue that these children willingly consent to these acts, it is crucial to question the capacity of a 12-year-old to provide informed consent.

Moreover, how can a grown man harbour lustful intentions towards a child? Instead of taking advantage of these vulnerable children, why can’t these men offer them support and assistance in other ways? It is imperative that the community and the Government of Eswatini intervene to curb this abhorrent behaviour.

To address this problem, it is vital to educate men about the severe consequences of sexually violating children. Perpetrators must be held accountable for their actions and face appropriate consequences. They should not be allowed to escape justice for such despicable acts.

Additionally, measures must be taken to ensure these children obtain birth certificates, enabling them to access education and creating a protective environment that reduces their vulnerability to engaging in harmful activities merely for survival.

Intervene

I appeal to the office of the Deputy Prime Minister to urgently intervene in these matters. This plea for help comes from the depths of these innocent souls. No one deserves to have their rights violated and these children, those who have already suffered so much, deserve justice, care, love and guidance.

Let us unite as a society, raise our voices and take immediate action to protect the rights and well-being of these children.

It is our responsibility to provide them with the opportunities they deserve and ensure that those responsible for their suffering are held accountable.
