OUR EDUCATION IS NOT 'BEST IN AFRICA'

Sir,

Kindly allow me space in your widely read news publication to vent my view concerning our education in Eswatini.

What do you stand to lose if you just walk away from school? Maybe someone could have a better answer than me as to what their plan is.

Eswatini does not have the best quality education at our lower primary and secondary levels, especially when compared to other countries in Africa.

We cannot blame our education for the high level of unemployment in the nation either, as this is due to things we cannot change.

Our education is far from being on the same level as international countries. Yes, with our higher level certificate a student can go study overseas, but we are not the best on the African continent. Our education is out-dated; we could do so much better.

Finish

A pupil could finish form five without even understanding how to drive a car. If a student wanted to one day become a police official, they would have to attend college first; which in short simply means 12 years of hard studying was not fruitful, more so useless. This likens our schools to simple day-care centres.

Where are our development structures? What are we doing as a nation? We are failing to get it right, what are we investing in our education system?

The job market is saturated now. We are not benefitting as emaSwati with our level of education. Our students are channelled into the job market where there are no vacancies rather than being taught how to create jobs themselves.

The minister for Education must scrap the current curriculum at high school level because it is not serving its purpose. We need an improved system that will.

We have suffered because of it, and we cannot choose to be silent anymore. We also need to adapt the curriculum to accommodate current technological advancements.

Instead of looking for jobs in a saturated market, we need to equip our pupils with skills to start their own businesses and contribute to creating more opportunity.

Where are we getting it wrong? It must be addressed.

: 8% EEC Tariff Hike Cut
Does 8% cut have the potential to ease financial burdens for emaSwati?
