CHALLENGES OF EDUCATED YOUTH

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

The first quarter of the year can be quite stressful. As you reflect on the last year, you may realise how little you achieved compared to the rest of your peers.

Life in Eswatini is a survival of who knows who, or who has connections.

If you do not have connections, then you are just good for nothing, and your survival will be a result of your patience.

Questions on education and poverty

Honestly speaking, it is not easy to understand why one is educated but still lives an impoverished life. Weren’t we told that education was the key to success?

If so, why are the educated youth in the country languishing in poverty? Why are they subjected to bad habits such as crime, prostitution and drug use, which they have picked up as a way of validating and distracting themselves and as a defence mechanism against the struggles they face?

Optimism and faith

As the youth, we are trying our level best to remain optimistic and have faith that things will get better.

For most of us, it is our faith that keeps us going, otherwise we would be drowning in depression.

It actually takes a higher level of faith to survive in the streets of unemployment.

It takes an understanding of God’s perfect will and time; that at the right time, God will make it happen, as stated in Isaiah 60:22.

Surviving in this country needs one to have a strong relationship with God, to be able to view things spiritually and understand the deeper intentions of God and Jeremiah 29:11, which states: “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you , not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

The purpose of hardships

Many often question when God’s time comes and why God allows us to go through hardships, but trust me, those hardships are necessary to prepare you for the greater blessings He has in store for you, and at times they are for you to be grateful for whatever He will bless you with, because you will know how it is to be without it. After all, the word says “all things work together for good, for those who trust in the Lord.”

Encouragement and faith

To everyone who is feeling depressed and thinks they are worthless for not achieving much in their lives, I want to encourage you to press on, do not give up on yourself and do not give up your faith.

Take whatever job that comes your way and wait upon God’s promises. Never get tired of praying and be grateful for every little thing you achieve.

Final encouragement

Do not compare yourself with others because you are on a different journey. Never let anything or anyone make you think less of yourself because you are worth even much more than you think you are.

Do not mind waiting upon the promises of God because nothing is impossible with him - Luke 1:37. Speak affirmations to yourself every day, work towards achieving your goals and leave the rest to your creator.

At the end of it all, you will understand why you had to go through all the hardships that you went through; they are just stepping-stones to an amazing future, channelling you to your rightful destiny.
