Not so happy at Happy Valley hotel
Sir,
Thank you for publishing my letter Mr Editor.
The silence that exists between Happy Valley Hotel and Casino management and its employees has made me to express the following concerns;
1. Why is it that from the time th hotel & casino started operating (September 2009) we have not been confirmed despite being in possession of letter stating that after three months we will be confirmed. It’s now nine months.
2. Why is it that there is no Human Resource dept to attend to our concerns.
3. Why is it that transport is not provided to employees despite having shifted and start staying around the hotel (Ezulwini/ Lobamba) after knocking off at midnight, we walk to our houses with all sorts of risks involved. Management never cares.
4. Why is it that we have not been provided with winter cloth (uniform) like other companies.
5. Why is it that our salaries are still the same as on day one.
6. Can someone please talk to us and listen to our plight.
7. Why is it that employees are working with fear of losing jobs as it is easy to lose a job.
I hope someone will come out to our rescue.
Disgruntled employee
Dear employee,
In response to the letter that you forwarded to ourselves firstly let us thank you for contacting us for comment.
The letter does not make sense as there are correct procedures in place for staff communication/grievances.
We also have an HR department to handle staff queries however it is difficult to answer questions from an individual when we only have a general query on all employees.
1) We don’t know if it is a hotel or casino employee as they are two separate companies with separate HRs and different employment contracts. All new staff employed by the hotel were employed on a contract basis
2)Transport is provided for staff. We would like to believe that we are very fair and treat our staff fairly and that our staff can approach us at any time.

Richard first and foremost being in management doesn’t give you the right to respond to ones queries by stating that they are nothing but nonsense. Your response is rather vague and do not understand the logic behind addressing employees collectively rather then individually concerning issues, unless of cause they belong to a union which I am certain you organization would not agree to in the first place. You have purposely avoided answering the question of why they havent still been confirmed after 9 months??? When your company came to Swaziland they promised that they were there to invest in Swaziland good as it may be but exploitation will not be stomached by Swazi Citizens anymore as it is about time employees stood up for their rights as enshrined in the Labour Laws of the Country
