Our anger is an instinctual response to fear, confusion

Sir,

Kumatima, I tell you. There is clearly a lot of trouble in paradise, ngiyakutjela.

You see the thing with human beings and any other creature, actually, is that when they are threatened, they bite.

They fight. They point fingers. They kick. They jab - that is if they don’t flee or jump away.

Those are simply the only two instinctual responses we instinctively choose from as responses to stress.

Depending on the problem one is facing and their knowledge on it, that will determine the response.

Threatening

Kafishane nje, all animals are equipped with either a fight or flight response to a threatening situation, including humans.

This, therefore, is no wonder why we are witnessing a lot of anger in the country.

We are angry! Parents are angry. Workers are angry. Teachers are angry.

Children, from primary through to tertiary school, are angry. And now, unfortunately kute lokhuta lomu-nye.

It’s like the old Zulu adage that goes ‘omunye ukhomba omunye esweni omunye uvikela iso lakhe’.

Honestly, some people, especially our government, need to take it easy on the masses, the average person in the street.

We are merely sharing our ideas and venting our feelings.

The truth is that we don’t know mbambambamba what happened to our monies.

We don’t know why, exactly, the country is going through problems. It is normal for us then to make a noise.

It is unfortunate then that in the SMART Partnership talks held recently in the country, our leaders clearly expressed their disgust at us.

Fire never puts out fire! We are angry; they are too nice, really nice! But really, what are we supposed to be scared of now?

Apologise

Are we supposed to all apologise and then what, keep quiet?

Kutoba mnandzi yini umase-sithulile or then someone will then blame us for deciding to hush up?

I know how offended I would be in my own household if I was the father and I was angry and everyone just didn’t care.

Actually, it is annoying when you want people to say something and they don’t. Abasiyekele labadzala sikhulume, please.

Besides, we should be the ones making the noise, we are the vessels.

Theirs is to work. They get paid to drive the country forward not crush it, no!

Malume
