Does Scarface' really exist?
Sir,
Allow me to air my views to whomever it may concern. I have been following the ‘Scarface’ saga for three months and I have had more questions than answers.
My biggest question, which I would be very much delighted to get an answer to, is: "Does ‘Scarface’ really exist?"
This is how I view it: He may have existed, raped, got arrested and maybe got killed after serving his jail term.
A woman got raped by a scarred man (is/was Masina the only scarred man?). She reported it to the police, described his features, and they matched Masina’s!
Mistaken
Remember those assaulted by cops over mistaken identity (were they ever compensated?).
I know your newspaper has interviewed his ‘relatives’ and the police PRO confirms the matter. But a layman like me will not believe it when the same PRO refutes the claims of a vendor being shot by the police and later we are told of the disappearance of the medical report.
Do you expect the public to believe you, the media, when you ran stories of the ‘worms man’ (you even showed us a censored picture of him, yet we had to see him to be safe!) who was later said to have been a hoax?
Seriously
Do we really have to trust the media on this one? Seriously, Mr Editor, isn’t the media trying to sell news to us? There are more questions than answers here!
To me, this is a wild goose chase used to terrorise the masses, make them run helter-skelter and forget about their worries.
To me, this is a way to make 600 armed workless (I’m avoiding the word ‘useless’ purposely this time) soldiers, cops and warders seem to be working in the eyes of the taxpayers.
Exorbitant
To me, this was (and still is) a way to prepare the ground for the Minister of Finance to apportion exorbitant fees for Defence (when we were told we have peace).
To me, this is a media marketing strategy. But why terrorise the masses?
If ‘Scarface’ exists, I wish the 600 officers good luck. Apprehend him, bring him to justice and let him get the sentence he deserves!
If he doesn’t exist (like the worms man), then they in collaboration with the media have succeeded in playing an early April Fool’s prank on us, siphoned our taxes off to a ghost project (bearing in mind the Defence budget) and made us believe that 600 workless officers are at work.
Once again, putting to use my rights of freedom of opinion, and speech, let me say that I do not believe that this Scarface character exists.
That’s my belief, though, and you are not forced to believe it too, unless you are from the same school of thought as me.
Lord Anthony
Dear Lord Anthony,
We believe that a man called Bhekinkhosi Masina, popularly referred to as ‘Scarface’ due to a facial disfigurement, exists. We believe he is wanted in connection with a series of rapes and abductions of children. We understand that many people have scars and therefore there are many cases of mistaken identity but we believe it is entirely possible for our police force to fail to catch him, because he may be sheltered by communities which don’t trust the police as is being alleged. We also believe that it is our trust and duty not to ‘terrify the masses’ but to alert them of potential dangers and social mishaps. In this case it is better to err on the side of caution because I am certain you would not wish that a relative of yours gets into contact with this man, and confirms our worst fears.
