Elect integrity and not wealth

Sir,

Mr editor, please allow me this space to share my little knowledge specifically on the above-mentioned topic.

This comes after the senior citizens in my area (Gege) used to ask me as to what is the reason of electing, especially in our kingdom?
I believe you can elect anew if there is necessity or you can maintain. By saying maintain, I mean you cannot change that particular candidate  he or she still delivers convincingly.

As I am writing, we’re heading to national elections where we will elect people we believe can help us practice decentralisation, people who will put the electorates ahead of their relatives and families, people who will facilitate and  implement development, starting from chiefdoms to constituencies. When I am saying’ from chiefdoms’, I mean people who form a constituency and are from chiefdoms.

This is what is expected from a person we can elect; of course, a person who at least knows the operations of our system of governance and government as a whole.
Editor, we have failed to elect wisely as Swazis. We always go for a person who has money, drives and uses shylocks to be MPs, indvuna and bucopho.

I would like to advise Swazis out there not to elect wealthy people but a person with integrity.
You can even elect a young person. It is not all about money but ‘bucotfo bemuntfu bekunene’ (loosley translated as a person’s intergrity). We  cannot run away from the truth that says we (as the electorate) have jeopardised the intentions of our  system of governance by electing wrong people to influential positions.

Tinkhundla, so far, is our system so why don’t we make use of it to our satisfaction? It’s high time we stand and say you don’t deserve this but you deserve this based on your performance, not based on how one can spend.

To the youth of Swaziland; soccer tournaments will never help us. It’s for fun, not for a future. After your team won that stokvel, can you live with those peanuts? Stand up, guys, and fully participate in this year’s elections.
