Elections fraught with many problems

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

The current Tinkhundla system elections are faced with numerous conditions and problems, where the constitution has been deliberately ignored, certain rules and regulations applied in selective ways.

As you read this, it is not clear which law is used to conduct the elections, the Elections Orders of 1992 or the current Elections passed under a cloud of controversies of quorums and other things?
Others were nominated while still occupying their public offices, against the constitution.
It seems many things are done behind the scenes or influenced by the powers that be.

Disadvantaged

The level of running the elections is not level, hence it has disadvantaged a number of aspiring candidates.
The EBC could not help with information on certain issues because it seems it is independent as it proclaims to have.
Comments from chiefs and government have not helped in the processes towards the elections but continued to create further confusion and problems.

Some chiefs openly campaigned for certain aspiring candidates and others de-campaigned other aspirants and we all know they cannot just do things without backing from somewhere!
