RAMODIBEDI SICK, DROPS HIS LAWYER
MBABANE – Suspended Chief Justice Michael Ramodibedi is sick.
This was revealed by lawyer Sipho Mnisi of SS Attorneys, who represented Ramodibedi but later informed the court that he had since been instructed by his client to withdraw as his attorney of record.
Judge Qinisile Mabuza, who sat with Judges Mbutfo Mamba and Mumcy Dlamini, yesterday ordered that Mnisi should call the suspended CJ and inform him that he should present himself before court in 15 minutes.
However, Ramodibedi failed to show up. The lawyer informed the court at 2pm when it reconvened, after about 35 minutes, that Ramodibedi was sick and would not be able to come to court.
He said Ramodibedi told him that even the Hhohho regional commander was aware that he was not well. Mnisi said the CJ, however, indicated that he was willing to come to court.
“I contacted the applicant (CJ) and he is not well. He is sick and said even the regional commander is aware that he is not well,” said Mnisi.
Judge Mabuza said Ramodibedi had been given enough time to present himself before court but he failed. Advocate Andrew Redding, who represented the JSC on the instruction of Zweli Jele of Robinson Bertram Attorneys, said the CJ was capable of representing himself or instructing another attorney to represent him or even reappoint Mnisi.
This was during the hearing of Ramodibedi’s application, in which he wanted members of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to recuse themselves from his impeachment proceedings. The application was dismissed with costs.
