MBABANE – A former Wesbank employee has been arrested for allegedly defrauding the bank E482 422.

Mbali Dlamini of Nkamanzi was arrested on Monday by members of the Royal Swaziland Police under the Hhohho Fraud and Commercial Crimes Unit.

She was subsequently charged with two counts of fraud, which she allegedly committed between the months of June and September 2013. While still employed by the bank, she was entrusted with the care and responsibility of assisting customers who wanted vehicle finance. Dlamini is reported to have resigned from the bank after she was informed that she was to appear for a disciplinary hearing.

In the first count she is said to have unlawfully and with intent to defraud, misrepresented to Phinda Dlamini of Wesbank that one Nkosinathi Mkhumane had applied for  vehicle finance of E259 607.

It is alleged that by means of the misrepresentation she induced the bank to the actual loss and prejudice of E259 607 by granting the said money to the purported seller. “When the accused made the aforesaid misrepresentation she well knew that Nkosinathi Mkhumane never applied for vehicle finance and thus committed the crime of fraud,” reads part of the charge sheet.

On June 28, 2013 Dlamini is alleged to have also applied the same tricks to defraud the bank a sum of E222 815.
She is alleged to have unlawfully and with intent to defraud, misrepresented to Phinda Dlamini of Wesbank that Nomthunzi Mngometulu had applied for vehicle finance of E222 815.

When she made the aforesaid misrepresentation she well knew that Nomthunzi Mngometulu never applied for vehicle finance and in the process committed the offence of fraud.
