SWAZI TV ‘S’GCOKO’ WILL NOT RESIGN

EZULWINI – Suspended Swazi TV CEO Bongani Sigcokosiyancinca Dlamini says he will not resign and he is not a criminal.

“It would be unwise for me to resign because it would make it look like I have something to hide. In fact, I do not want to comment much on that now, I will get time where I will reveal everything,” he said.
As a result, Dlamini said he would allow the audit to be conducted and that he was prepared to observe the fairness of the exercise so that it was not understood as a ploy to defend himself.

“There is a lot of improvement, I am very proud and I stand lofty and very proud of my job at STVA. Broadcasting is about content and the most important principle is to make that content relevant. With that drive, there is a change that has to take place,” he said.

Dlamini said that everyone could attest to the fact that the station was rising, including the business side of it.
“The deficit was getting minimal and manageable, except that the hole is too huge. There is less business that you can make around that hole. So it is just a bailout and STVA can rise up to the expectation of the country but until we attend to those issues, things will not improve,” he said.

While he sits at home pending the finalisation of the audit into the operations of the station, the suspended Swazi TV CEO said he was not a criminal.
His request to all parties that were involved was that everyone should operate on the principle of fairplay and good faith.

He said it wasn’t fair that he was now being treated like a criminal in a situation that was so clearly defined in terms of the financial situation of the station that was known to all and sundry.
Even though he did not want to delve much on his allegation, Dlamini said the stories about the station’s deficit dated back to 1983.

Dlamini was suspended by the station’s Board of directors together with the station’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Albert Masuku on Monday, pending an audit which was necessitated by many problems, including unpaid salaries of employees and the attaching of equipment to settle debts with former employees who were retrenched.

In an interview with this publication at The Gables yesterday, Dlamini said both the last Board of directors and the current one knew the truth that no one could run an organisation as big as Swazi TV without money.
He said both the boards had all the paperwork, where he reported all problems that were engulfing the station.

“I am hopeful that common sense will prevail to all of us. Every little cent that I have been making at the station, I was putting it into the hole that dates back to 1983. But now it is unfortunate that it looks like I am the one who is a problem. I am saying this in good faith and if people do not understand then it becomes a problem,” he said.

Commenting on his warrant of arrest, which was issued this week, Dlamini said he was not the one who was being summoned per se but that it was the station.
“The summons was directed to me as an ex-officio. It is unfortunate that the approach now makes it look like it is me that is on the wrong. I think common sense will prevail,” he said. He said he had always been reporting to the relevant authorities about the many problems engulfing the station.
