POLICE CASSPIR DRIVER APOLOGISES TO AYANDA’S FAMILY
MANZINI – The police officer who drove the Casspir, that left a UNISWA student paralysed, has apologised to her family.
This is according to the University of Swaziland (UNISWA) student representative Council (SRC) President, Brian Sangweni, who paid a visit to the student Ayanda Mkhabela on May 2, 2016.
Mkhabela revealed that the police officer who was driving the Casspir, which caused her injuries, went to her family to apologise. However, she would never forgive him, as long as she was still in a wheelchair.
“Ayanda did declare that she heard that the police officer who was driving the Casspir went to her family to apologise for his act and he have not yet come to her but she was firm on that she would never forgive that police officer so long as she would be in a wheelchair.
“She further said she would continue to support all students’ struggles that were waged on behalf of the underprivileged young people of the institution,” Sangweni added.
Mkhabela is also reported to have said she wished to remain a UNISWA student despite that most of the facilities in the institution did not accommodate people of her condition.
“She also said she did not see herself as a victim of an unjust cause and further declared that she did not regret taking part in the protests despite that it resulted in her being injured.
Ayanda said she was not invited nor was she forced to join the protest but she did so voluntarily and she did not regret that. She holds the view that she is a victim of a police service that refuses to modernise and one that still carries with it medieval operation principles.
