COP SHOOTS COLLEAGUE ACCIDENTALLY
MBABANE – A police officer shot another while they were inside a police camp.
The two officers in the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) are friends and they were visiting each other when the gun went off, injuring the other in his left arm.
Coincidentally, the two officers share the same name but a different surname as Mduduzi Mhlanga was shot by mistake in the arm by Mduduzi Ndlangamandla, who is a son to the late police officer, Senior Superintendent Khethokwakhe Ndlangamandla. Both officers are based at Mankayane Police Station.
Mhlanga is currently recuperating at Mbabane Government Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
Information gathered is to the effect that the two officers had been visiting each other on the day and Ndlangamandla was putting away his service pistol not knowing that there was a bullet inside the gun.
As Ndlangamandla put the gun away, there was a loud bang as it went off in the direction of Mhlanga, who was inside the house and was subsequently shot.
The officers had knocked off from work and were inside the police houses at the police camp.
Other officers, who stay in the camp, were shocked by the sound of the gun and went to inspect. Upon seeing the damage, their colleague was rushed to hospital after the senior officer in charge at the station was informed.
When Mhlanga was visited at hospital, he first kept quiet for some time after being alerted that he was talking to a journalist before he stated that he had nothing to say about the matter. He was found in the company of two women, who were helping him eat yogurt.
