THOLULWAZI – Police officers were stunned when a woman led them to a church pit latrine where they found her newborn baby dead and wedged inside.

This was after the expectant mother did the unthinkable last Friday, and allegedly threw the baby into the pit latrine soon after giving birth.
The premises of the Assemblies Church at Tholulwazi area had to be cordoned off as a crime scene by the police, who continued to collect evidence after the baby was retrieved from the toilet.

A bloodied plastic bag, which contained the dead baby, was carried out of the church lavatory, just after 5pm. The trip to the church followed an interrogation, where the 31-year-old Sisana Shabangu of Tholulwazi area, apparently admitted to throwing the newborn baby into the pit latrine.
This was after she was handed over to officers from the Hlatikhulu Police Station by members of the area’s community policing forum, who suspected that she had thrown away her baby after giving birth.

Shabangu was sold out by the fact that she no longer had a bulging stomach and yet no one had seen her carrying a baby, as would have been expected.
A curious member of the local community policing forum proceeded to the woman’s homestead after he was alerted to the anomaly by a concerned resident.

She found Shabangu at the homestead, but the woman could not give a convincing explanation when she was taken to task about the issue.
The community police would not buy into her incredible story about giving birth at the fields, where she said she left the baby and went back home to collect clothes.
