SPEAK NOW BEFORE SADC SUMMIT - KING
LUDZIDZINI – Do you have a burning national concern that you want addressed before the SADC Summit?
Now is your chance to speak out as His Majesty King Mswati III yesterday officially availed an opportunity to all Swazis to make themselves heard on any thorny issue.
The King said this when he addressed about 15 000 people who crammed the cattle byre (Sibaya) at Ludzidzini Royal Residence, during the launch of the two-day People’s Parliament.
Although the King had already outlined the agenda on the various topics which would be discussed, he advised the public not to limit themselves but get whatever matter that was bothering them off their chests before the regional meeting was held.
The nation is expected to converge at the cattle byre at 11am today to make their submissions.
“Speak now and clear the path for all our visitors because we do not want any of these thorns to prick them,” said the King.
In vernacular he said; “Litfuba leli lekutsi sisuse emanyeva latohamba ahlaba aze ahlabe netivakashi tenkhosi.”
Though not specific on what the thorny issues were, those present were heard suggesting that it could be the issue of the salary review (dvuladvula) for civil servants and politicians.
He said issues of the drought, SADC Summit, Vision 2022, health and economic concerns, should all be addressed so that each Swazi could have a say for the betterment of the country.
During the 2012 People’s Parliament, a thorny issue was Finance Circular No.1 of 2010, which catered for the remuneration of politicians, and the nation minced no words when they said they wanted it scrapped.
In his 30-minute address, the King said he had not convened Sibaya for a while yet that was where the nation was built.
“I know some of you had heard me in the news that the country would host the Summit, but informing you in that manner was not good enough and, therefore, this was one of the reasons I called the nation,” His Majesty said.
