HOW TO MAKE E600 000 PER DAY
MANZINI – It has not been proven if the notorious Nyaope drug that is causing parents and authorities in South Africa sleepless nights has reached the Kingdom of Swaziland.
However, this newspaper can today reveal that Swazis are actively involved in an international syndicate that helps drug lords manufacture the illegal substance.
Nyaope (also known as whoonga or wunga) is a highly addictive, dangerous and destructive street drug, previously unique to Tshwane but now spread across South Africa.
The Times SUNDAY has established that some lowly-paid workers, including security guards, are making a killing by involving themselves in a new habit-forming drug syndicate.
The guards make up to E30 000 or more per month just by turning a blind eye to the theft of embalming chemicals within the companies where they are deployed to provide security. This is on top of their monthly salaries. This is an allegation made by some mortuary workers during the course of an intensive investigation conducted by this newspaper into operations of this crime ring.
Embalming is the art and science of preserving human remains by treating them (in its modern form with chemicals) to forestall or delay decomposition. The intention is to keep the corpse suitable for public display at a funeral, for religious reasons or for medical and scientific purposes such as their use as anatomical specimens.
While some funeral homes use embalming fluid, others use powder for this process. Embalming chemical is a highly-flammable compound containing formaldehyde, methanol, ethanol and other solvents. The powder comes in two types – white and pink – with the latter said to be more potent when mixed with as yet unknown drugs to make them stronger.
Investigations by this newspaper, which have been going on for several weeks, uncovered the fact that most funeral parlours in the country use embalming fluid to preserve bodies for the reasons stated above.
However, others, like Dups Funeral Home, use embalming powder, which is a much sought-after chemical in the black market. The powder is also known as embalming compound.
Dups Funeral Home is part of the well-known Dups Group Holdings.
The company has been dedicated to serving bereaved families since 1950.
It says its purpose is to provide dignified and professional funeral services in Swaziland, as meaningful and unique as the families they care for. Over the years, Dups has developed to provide funeral homes and mortuary facilities in various locations around the country.
