KUKHANYENI – Disappointment was written on the faces of the over 400 aspirant soldiers who showed up for only two army jobs during the USDF recruitment exercise at Kukhanyeni Inkhundla yesterday.

This, after most of them failed to make the cut though it had been announced that only two candidates would be considered from each inkhundla for the 495 army jobs.

However, about 200 finally joined the 3.2km marathon after about a similar number withdrew because they did not meet the requirements which mostly included personal documents such as identity card (ID), birth certificate and graded tax number.

Even so, some participated in the marathon yet they did not bring all the required documents and this led to the disqualification of 15 aspiring soldiers. Since only two people are needed from each constituency, an Ingatja and an Imbali, the Umbutfo Swaziland Defence Force (USDF) only registered the first 15 males and same number of females who finished the 3.2km marathon within 14 minutes. Before they continued with other exercises, they were asked to furnish the recruiting officers with their identification (ID) cards, birth certificates and graded tax numbers.

It was then that the military men discovered that half of the people who won the marathon had not brought all the required documents.
Kukhanyeni Member of Parliament (MP) Bongani Mabuza and Indvuna yeNkhundla Mmemezi Dlamini tried to assist some of the aspiring soldiers by lending them their mobile phones to call their relatives.

Furthermore, they also offered to drive to their homes to fetch the documents. Dlamini went to Sankolweni and Ngwane Park in Manzini while the MP went to Mbeka and Maliyaduma.
