STOP CONSTRUCTION OF PM’S HOUSE – PARLY
LOBAMBA – “Hold it right there!” This was the stance taken by Members of Parliament (MPs) as they insisted that the E5.5 million meant for the construction of the prime minister’s (PM) residence be stopped.
The MPs felt that the money was too much, and therefore it should remain under Head 60 where it would be frozen until such time the country was financially capable of constructing the residence for the PM, Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini. According to the PM’s annual performance report, the earmarked site for the construction of the project will be in Thembelihle and the house is expected to have four bedrooms, which will all be en suite.
First to move the motion was Nkwene MP Sikhumbuzo Dlamini, who insisted that the money be frozen because the plan of the house was not clear on who would build it and if it was indeed supposed to cost this much. “The Finance Circular No.2 of 2013 does not even state how much this house is supposed to cost. Initially, the amount allocated this year was E11 million, until we as the Finance Committee spotted this and they returned with a revised amount of E5.5 million,” said Dlamini.
The Nkwene MP wondered if the ordinary citizen of the country had been considered when this amount was suggested. “They said the house would come with a jacuzzi and other features; will this also be the case when the next PM also vacates offices?” wondered Dlamini.
The MP was of the view that if he was made PM, would he also get such a benefit; stating that he was worried about the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, which would be responsible, knowing that they had a bad tendency of allegedly looting funds. He said other units like the Micro Projects Units be contacted. “The PM will get gratuity, be built a house, have a PA and security. he can have the house, but not at this cost, it will be too much,” he said.
