HUBBY REPORTS KIDNAPPING AS GELANE WHISKED TO SA HOSPITAL
MBABANE – Police had to respond to a hurried call on Tuesday afternoon after receiving news that Senate President Gelane Zwane had been kidnapped.
It was gathered that it was actually Zwane the husband, Mike, who had made the call to the Mbabane Police Station around 4pm and requested police assistance following that ‘his wife had been kidnapped’.
The claim resulted in a prompt response from police who visited the Zwane homestead at Pine Valley, in the outskirts of Mbabane, to investigate the kidnapping allegation.
Mike is alleged to have informed the police that certain people were taking his wife against both their will at their home in Pine Valley.
Police responded urgently to the call, such that the Mbabane Police Station Commander was involved because Zwane is a top political figure in the country.
When they arrived at the Zwane homestead, they listened to the whole story of what had happened and they continued with their investigations, which led them to Ngwenya/Oshoek Border gate where the Senate president had gone through in the company of the people said to have taken her.
According to Superintendent Khulani Mamba, the Chief Police Information and Communications Officer, they followed information they received from the claims which led them to the border gate where it was confirmed that indeed Zwane had crossed to neighbouring South Africa.
Further police investigations led to the unearthing of information to the effect that the Senate president was fetched from her home by a relative and an official from the Phalala Fund, who were taking her to hospital because she was not well.
It is well documented that Zwane has not been her usual self since late last year, to the point that she had to miss some sittings in Senate.
When the Zwane homestead was visited yesterday during lunchtime, her husband was found in the house with some of the staff members doing their duties and it was confirmed that the Senate president was not present.
In an interview with Mike, he requested not to talk on the matter.
“I would not like to comment on the matter you are talking about and I suggest that you talk to the person whom the whole issue is about. I have nothing to say,” Mike said politely.
