MBABANE – The story of the car which was allegedly stolen at Somhlolo National Stadium over the weekend has taken another twist.

The latest version is that a woman, who cannot be named pending the investigations by the police, has claimed ownership of the car and has further refused to surrender it over to the police.

She is said to have showed up at the police station carrying the car’s blue book as proof that she was the rightful owner.
The disappearance of the car was reported to the police by a certain Mr Vilakati, who is a driver for Mbabane businessman Mduduzi Dlamini. Dlamini is known in the football circles as he was once part of capital city giants Mbabane Highlanders’ officials.

Information gathered by this newspaper is that the woman alleged that the car, a Mahindra LDV worth E120 000 registered XSD 827 BM, belonged to her and that it was taken after she failed to pay a cetain debt.
It is alleged that she failed to pay a debt of about E41 000, which led to a sheriff attaching the car and further selling it by public auction, where Dlamini became the highest bidder and bought it.

However, the woman kept a spare key of the car and it is that key which was allegedly used when the vehicle was taken at the stadium.
Dlamini is said to have visited the police station yesterday where he was told that the car had been found but that it was not going to be released to him as yet.

Called for comment, Dlamini mentioned that he was now confused because the police had not arrested the person who took the car. He alleged that when he enquired about that, he was informed that the woman had said she was going to surrender it at her ‘own time’, something which he was not pleased with.
