POLICE PROBE HOW TODDLER ‘ATE’ WEEVIL TABLET
MBABANE – Police are investigating the death of the 15-month-old toddler who died after ingesting weevil tablets.
Nkosingizwile Madolo died while being ferried to hospital last Thursday after she ingested the deadly weevil tablet powder from a container inside her grandmother’s house at Sitseni.
Sitani Dlamini, the grandmother to the minor, said when the police arrived at Hhukwini Clinic where they had rushed Nkosingizwile to, they asked them why they had fed the child the deadly pill, making it seem like they had forced it down her throat.
Superintendent Khulani Mamba, the Chief Police Information and Communications Officer, confirmed that they were investigating the death of the toddler.
The case is being handled by officers from Lobamba Police Station as they were the ones who went to the clinic.
They also took the container which contained the weevil tablets.
“We are investigating what really transpired on the day. We recorded statements from the family and they will help with the investigation. The postmortem results will also be used. Nobody has been charged yet,” Mamba said.
Sitani said on the Wednesday Zwile (the toddler), as she was called by her mother Bongiwe Dlamini, was not well as her body temperature was high and she was vomiting.
They then called her father on the same day who told them that he would send money through Mobile Money so she could be sent to hospital. On Thursday morning, they woke up and did their normal chores and Zwile would sometimes cry.
