GABARONE, BOTSWANA – Management and staff at SADC Headquarters are excited at the results achieved under the leadership of His Majesty the King as SADC Chairperson.

Five key deliverables were highlighted yesterday with SADC Executive Secretary Dr Stergomena Tax describing one of the milestones as a ‘defining moment for the future of SADC’.

“You set the agenda for your tenure of office and I am delighted that positive outcomes are manifesting,” she said. The staff association also said they were delighted to stand before the King as the first ever SADC staff association that has, from 2016, been able to access the executive secretary and sit in Secretariat management and council meetings. His Majesty the King visited the SADC Headquarters yesterday to familiarise himself with its operations as Chairperson of SADC.

He was taken on a tour of the library, unveiled a plaque and signed a placard in honour of his visit. He also took time to pose for pictures with both management and staff of the SADC Secretariat. Addressing the SADC Chairperson His Majesty the King, Dr Tax listed the five milestones as:

Finalising the Costed Industrialisation Action Plan for SADC industrialisation Strategy and Roadmap 2015-2063 which will bring about technology and socio-economic transformation to the SADC region.

Convening a Ministerial retreat which took stock of what SADC has achieved since its establishment in 1980, the challenges it faces and what needs to be done to accelerate pace and level of SADC integration agenda. The conclusions of this retreat are now being put into an implementation plan and roadmap.
