MBABANE – Teachers of Ezulwini Community Primary School have lived to tell a sad story of watching a pupil take her last breath right in class.

The incident happened on Wednesday morning and the child, aged seven years, was certified dead upon arrival at the Mbabane Government Hospital.

As per the daily routine of going to school, the Grade II pupil, Hlelelwe Madlopha, is said to have arrived in the company of some of her schoolmates who are said to have noticed that something was not right.

They are said to have assisted her to her classroom where they helped her rest on her desk while others went to call her teachers, who were already taking part in the assembly routine.

“We rushed to her class together with our superiors where we found her struggling to breathe. We all gathered and prayed while some of our colleagues made efforts to call an ambulance,” said a female source who asked not to be named.

The source said they could see that the child had stopped breathing and that they stayed with the lifeless body while waiting for an ambulance.
“Other pupils came and we requested them to wait outside. We could not rush the child to hospital using a car belonging to one of us because we had already called the ambulance and we were all shaken,” she said.

Paramedics are said to have arrived after about an hour, took the child and requested some of the teachers to accompany them to hospital as they made it clear that things were not looking good.
