LOBAMBA – In the highest form of insurbodination, two high ranking officials allegedly went behind the back of their boss and criticised the South African government for offering Matric in Swaziland.

One of the officers is from the Ministry of Education and the other from the Exams Council of Swaziland.
This startling allegation was made to a shocked House of Assembly yesterday when they learnt that efforts by the Minister of Education and Training Phineas Magagula to enter into a Bi-lateral agreement with his SA counterpart on the issue of continuing to offer matric in Swaziland were allegedly thwarted by the two. The duo is alleged to have privately gone to the neighbouring country and told off those country’s education authorities, for trying to continue offering matric in Swaziland, stating that they were destroying the local examinations.

These allegations were raised yesterday by Zombodze Emuva MP Titus Thwala and were indeed confirmed by the minister who said, “yes, there were officials who went to South Africa and they were not sent by me as they went on their own accord and it is very dangerous for them to do that.”

Magagula said he had also personally asked the officials if they had travelled to South Africa, to which they responded in the affirmative.
This was during the debate of a motion by MP Thwala, who moved that the minister should forthwith explain to the House why his ministry was blowing hot and cold and he himself ‘dragging his feet’ on the South African Matriculation Board/U-Tech saga.
The minister learned of the duo’s trip to South Africa through a faxed letter that was written by the SA Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga, dated January 28, 2016 timed 10:37am, who told the minister (Magagula) that she was shocked that after their successful talks, two officers had undone all their hard work.
