TEEN CAR THIEF GETS 7 YEARS PRISON TIME

MANZINI – Yet another 19-year-old boy will do time in a correctional facility after being sentenced to close to eight years for theft.


 After a total of six witnesses had delivered their evidence, the teenage boy who broke into S&S Motors and stole two cars, 15 car keys and further abducted a 17-year-old girl, has been sentenced to seven years six months imprisonment.


Buhle Junior Matsebula (19) of Luve, who was facing six charges; two of theft of motor vehicles, housebreaking, malicious damage to property, abduction and driving a car without a valid driver’s licence, was sentenced by Magistrate Sindisile Zwane yesterday afternoon.
In fact, the teenager was sentenced to 13 years six months in prison, four years of which are a custodial sentence for stealing two cars at the garage. For housebreaking, malicious damage to property and abduction, he was sentenced to three years or E3 000 fine for each but the sentences were ordered to run concurrently while for driving a car on a public road without a valid licence, he was supposed to spend six months in prison or pay an E800 fine.


During his trial, which started last week, a total of six witnesses delivered evidence which the accused did not dispute before court. The witnesses included the owner of the garage, Sifiso Dlamini, the garage security guard, his girlfriend, the father of his girlfriend and two police officers.


 According to the charge sheet, on June 3, 2017 Matsebula broke into S&S Motors and stole a top-of-the range Mercedes Benz registered MNTOLOS MP worth E200 000. Two days later, he broke into the same garage and stole a VW Gold sedan valued at about E35 000. On the housebreaking with intent to steal charge, the charge sheet states that Matsebula broken into the businessman’s offices and stole 15 car keys valued at E174 000, while on the malicious damage to property offence, he damaged the business premises’ gate by crashing into it with the VW Golf sedan when driving away with it.
