MANZINI – Judge Titus Mlangeni might have ruled that secret lovers (bomakhwapheni) would no longer be at fault for wrecking marriages, but witch doctors say they will be inundated with customers.

This is for no other reason than to purchase likhubalo.
Witch Doctors Association Chairman Makhanya Makhanya condemned the judgment by Judge Mlangeni and made it clear that he believed that those who committed adultery were on the wrong side of the law and as such, they should be prosecuted.

However, Makhanya said for those who need a way out, it was not all doom and gloom as some witch doctors still produced likhubalo and would help solve the problems that might have been created by the judgment.

Makhanya said in the past, before people had the option of taking those responsible for the breakdown of their marriages because of adultery to court, there was a practice called likhubalo.
According to Mkhanya’s definition, likhubalo is a form of  ‘security’ obtained from witch doctors that prevents a man’s wife from committing adultery. He made it clear that likhubalo was mainly purchased by men, because it was their responsibility to secure their marriages.

“One of the reasons witch doctors stopped producing likhubalo was because of laws that were placed against adultery. People did not feel the need to buy it anymore and it became outdated.

More than anything, likhubalo turned to be dangerous because people even died from it and witch doctors stopped producing it,” he said.
The use of likhubalo was banned some many years ago in the country.
