GIRL (16) DIES AFTER MUM BEATS HER WITH BROOM

BUHLENI – Mothers will often do everything possible to protect their children, sometimes even at the cost of their own lives but it was not the case for *Nothando, whose mother is alleged to have taken away the very life she was meant to protect.

Her mother is a businesswoman who sells some wares around Buhleni.
Nothando, who was aged 16, died tragically after allegedly being assaulted by her mother.

The assault is said to have lasted for four nights at different intervals, according to neighbours.
The incident happened around Mayiwane under Ludzibini Umphakatsi. Residents are now furious and want action to be taken.
Nothando could easily have defended herself against her mother as she was equally fit but some of the residents claimed she was too polite to hit back.

She is said to have obliged to the point of being tied while she was allegedly being assaulted.
The name of Nothando’s mother will not be mentioned as she has not yet appeared before court for the allegations levelled against her.
Trouble is said to have started last Thursday in the evening.  This was also the last day her friends saw her at Mayiwane High School,where she was a Form IV pupil.

She was popular among her schoolmates as she was also a member of the drum majorettes and put her school on the map of successful schools.

She was the one who carried a flag during the recent competition of the drum majorettes when she represented her school.
