MHLUME – What was meant to be a night of fun ended up turning into a chaotic scenario as violence reared its ugly head at the Mhlume Country Club on Saturday.

Fans not only vandalised and stole property but further looted bottles of expensive whisky and other alcoholic beverages plus a DSTV decoder.
This was after lights went off while hundreds of fun lovers were eagerly waiting to see their favourite South African music star Professor at a show dubbed the ‘Dvuladvula Festival’, which was organised by Phelavele Entertainment.
Apparently, the much acclaimed SA artist was performing in his home country at the time when he was expected to serenade his Swazi fans.

Coincidentally, the lights went off when there was already talk among the fans that the artist would not perform as he had not shown up.
It was gathered from some of the security guards that the lights went off after a motorist knocked one of the electricity poles situated next to the entrance of the club.
Before the lights went off, the excited fans had danced to music which was dished out by local spinners who included Swazi Boy Entertainment’s DJ Crooks.

The lights went off at exactly 1:30am and by that time, the fans were already chanting Professor’s name while others sang some of his favourite songs including the banger titled ‘Umsindo’.
Since they knew what they had come for, the fans were patient as they did not leave the club but danced inside the dark hall with the hope that power would be restored soon. Others, not knowing that the electricity had actually gone off in the whole village, were heard shouting why such a big venue did not have a generator in place.

But trouble started at about 2am when the fans saw some of the DJs collecting their sound equipment which was on the stage, signalling that the party was over.
Suddenly, loud noises of bottles and stones being thrown towards the stage were heard and that is when the fans started running helter-skelter. With the whole place in total darkness and with some angry fans throwing stones, it became a chaotic situation which saw some of them using the opportunity to help themselves to the liquor that was being sold at the bar stalls that were available.
About six windows were damaged during the commotion.

Those who had parked their cars next to the club rushed to drive them away to safety which led to an uncontrollable traffic jam.
The angry fans started vandalising everything they came across and the situation got serious so much that even those who were enjoying their sleep in the accommodation inside the club were not spared. Their doors were banged and pelted with big stones as the rowdy fans screamed in angry voices saying ‘Sifuna lemali yetfu’ (we want our money).
