PIGG’S PEAK SEX WORKERS MIGRATE TO BUHLENI, SLASH CHARGES TO E30
BUHLENI – As a means of evading police arrest, sex workers, especially those from Pigg’s Peak, have migrated to Buhleni.
Though not a fully-fledged town, Buhleni is one of the fast developing areas around northern Hhohho.
In an investigation carried out by this publication, it has been gathered that sex workers seem to be on the increase in the area and have dropped their fee to E30 from about E100, depending on certain issues.
This is almost three times lower than what is normally charged around Pigg’s Peak.
“Most of these women who charge E30 are just starting (in the profession),” said a frequenter at one of the watering holes around Buhleni.
He revealed that it was not easy to nab sex workers there because they sometimes mix with other imbibers.
If not in drinking spots, the sex workers are found in waiting rooms making it impossible for the police to arrest them for loitering.
Older sex workers are of the view that those who charge E30 are mainly younger girls and blamed this on the setting of the town. They said most of the young sex workers came from nearby communities driven by the desire to earn an income.
“That amount may appear small but over a long period, it is a lot,” they said.
They also revealed that the sex trade was fuelled by the high number of alcohol imbibers as well as the proximity of the town to neighbouring South Africa (SA).
Police have been tough on activities relating to sex work such that the National Commissioner of police Isaac Magagula, warned that the activity was illegal in the country.
He did not mince words when stating that the law would be tough on those found to be breaking the law.
Several sex workers have been arrested in Manzini as well as Pigg’s Peak, which are considered prime areas for sex trade.
Buhleni Indvuna Sebenzela Khumalo said he had not personally seen the activities but heard that such happened around bars.
