LUKHULA – Two trucks collided at kaFutheni Hill near Siteki yesterday leaving the driver of one of the vehicles in a critical condition.

The driver of the other truck escaped unhurt and there were no casualties from the accident, police confirmed.

According to people who arrived at the scene immediately after the accident, the trucks were coming from opposite directions when one of them moved into the other’s lane resulting in the collision.
“The truck that was coming from the Siteki direction tried to evade speed humps and moved into the other lane. The other truck that was moving up the hill was speeding hence they collided,” said a source.

The source said there were no passengers in both trucks.
He said the driver of the truck that was moving up the hill sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Good Shepherd Hospital in Siteki, where his condition remains critical.

The other driver was questioned by police at the scene before he was detained, the source added.
Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintend Khulani Mamba, confirmed that only one person was critically injured in the accident.

He stated that a police preliminary investigation suggests that the accident was caused by negligent driving.
“The driver who escaped unhurt from the accident has been charged with negligent driving and driving inconsiderately of other road users. He will appear in court soon,” said Mamba.
