MANZINI – Even though she did not make a public appreciation for imbali, Minister Jabulile Mashwama was spotted among the crowd.

The minister of Natural Resources and Energy is the mother to newly-unveiled Liphovela LaMashwama. The minister made her first public appearance in this year’s Umhlanga ceremony, after speculation that the new Liphovela was her daughter. Amid the news and the urge to see her during the main reed dance, which was held at Ludzidzini Royal Residence recently, the minister was a no-show.
The minister was seen seated at a separate marquee with a seven-member delegation made up of some members of the Lutsango regiment. Uniform to her acquaintances, Mashwama looked radiant in traditional attire and a maroon soft blanket, since the weather was chilly.

When the regiment, which consisted of royalty marched in front of Their Majesties, the minister’s delegation rose up to show appreciation to the Imbali when they passed by the tent where the minister was seated.
All this while the minister remained on her seat but she instructed the women who had gone to ululate the imbali to take pictures of the liphovela.
Even before the group reached where the minister was seated, she looked at the direction from where they were coming in anticipation. The minister posed for cameras but efforts to get an interview with her proved futile. “I’m not interested at all,” she said before she focused her attention to the arena.

Towards the end of the ceremony, the minister’s delegation went to the arena to show appreciation to the maidens, including the Liphovela.
The minister was conspicuously missing during the main day of the reed dance held earlier this month. Her daughter had not been officially unveiled then as Liphovela, until a couple of weeks back when His Majesty King Mswati III left for New York in the United States of America accompanied by LaMashwama. One of the royal aides at the airport proudly announced that His Majesty was indeed leaving with Liphovela LaMashwama.
Speculation of LaMashwama joining royalty started during the build up and activities leading to the main day of the reed dance when she was spotted donning a different kanga and further guarded by members of the security forces. On the main day, she was also spotted dancing with royalty.
