CONTINUE WITH YOUR ENQUIRY - NURSES
MANZINI – The adage, ‘a wise man changes his mind, a fool never’ clearly defines nurses, who now have decided to allow government to conduct investigations at the Mkhuzweni Health Centre.
The decision, however, does not have any bearing on the nationwide strike planned for Wednesday.
Initially, nurses wanted government to stop the ongoing commission of enquiry regarding the incident that took place on Christmas Day 2015, wherein a child died at birth.
The nurses took this decision during their three-day midterm conference held at Esibayeni Lodge from Monday to Wednesday and ended with a summit on Thursday. The conclusions of the conference were compiled into a declaration.
Bheki Mamba, President of the Swaziland Democratic Nurses Union (SWADNU) as they call their organisation, said they had consulted with their legal team and were advised accordingly.
According to the declaration, the nurses resolved to write a petition to be delivered on Wednesday to the Prime Minister’s Office where they would raise their concerns relating the enquiry. Mamba said the concerns would make the outcome of the investigation null and void to charge any of the investigated nurses.
They decided to raise the loopholes within the investigation so that the outcome could not be trusted as some of the inputs were allegedly wrong.
However, there was a feeling that it could be too late to challenge the outcome of the investigation and they decided to allow the commission of enquiry to proceed to show that they had nothing to hide.
