NO VISITING SA ON A SUNDAY

MBABANE – Some Swazis have been denied long stay in South Africa despite that there is a maximum 30-day entitlement for foreigners.

The duration of stay in South Africa was increased from 14 days to 30 days about five years ago, and it was in conformity of a Southern African Development Community protocol, which applies in all 15 member countries.

On Sunday last week, people who had planned to visit that country were shocked at the border gate when they were told they could only be allowed one-week stay.

This was after they were interrogated about the purpose of visit and further ordered to produce work or study permits, despite having pointed out that they were not working.
*Pinky said previously, she would enjoy a 30-day stay in that country until Sunday.

She said Immigration officers and police at the border told her that the only people who were expected to be going to SA on a Sunday, were SA citizens because they were returning home after the weekend.
Pinky claimed that the officers ordered her to produce a work permit because she was a foreigner, and she could not be claiming to be going to South Africa for holiday on a Sunday.

“I tried to explain that I was not working in SA but I was only going there for holiday but they said that was a lie.”
One of the women said the officers stamped her passport and said she could only stay in SA until October 15, 2017.
