MATHANGENI – A rocky relationship ended deadly when a 21-year-old woman finished off a fight with her lover by plunging a knife in his chest twice, killing him on the spot.

The woman, Nokulunga Dlamini, who had been allegedly living in an abusive relationship for years, is alleged to have stabbed her lover and father of her baby twice in the chest with the kitchen knife, killing him instantly. The gruesome incident is alleged to have occurred at Mathangeni, Matsapha on Friday at around 9pm.

Information gathered from neighbours who live in the same compound of stick and mud flats is that the woman was being abused physically and emotionally by her boyfriend of three years, Sifiso Maziya, on a daily basis.

“She endured all the abuse and we would warn him against it, however, he would not listen. This woman was assaulted daily by her lover, and sometimes she reported the abuse incidents to the police. On this particular day, we heard her screaming for help and crying hysterically, begging us to open the door and said Sifiso would kill her.

We could hear him from outside assaulting her as we banged the door, which had been locked, hoping he would eventually open it,” a neighbour who refused to be named said. She added that other tenants came and they all kicked the locked door before it was eventually opened.

The tenant revealed that when Dlamini came out of the house, she was bleeding profusely from the face, mouth and arms.
“She could not even walk properly or talk and she was weak. She leaned on the entrance of the house while her partner, who was still shouting, came out carrying a broken chair. The only thing she said was to enquire why Sifiso had to severely assault her in front of their 10-month-old baby with the chair, which eventually broke. At the time, the tenants were holding him and demanding answers. They asked him why he always assaulted his lover,” another tenant said.

They disclosed that while other tenants were conversing with Maziya, he went inside the house and emerged with part of the broken chair, further throwing it to the direction where his lover had been standing.
“We do not have an idea how it happened or how she managed to get hold of the kitchen knife but we saw her walking towards him. She drew the knife from her back and plunged it in his chest, pulled it out and plunged it again. Sifiso fell to the ground and he was immediately covered in a pool of blood. The whole incident was like a movie and shocking.
