TV DIES IN SA HOSPITAL
MANZINI – Once again, death has struck within the country’s traditional circle as phenomenal and elderly statesman Timothy Velabo ‘TV’ Mtetwa has died.
Mtetwa (93), who was the acting Ludzidzini Governor, succumbed to a lengthy illness while undergoing treatment at a South African based hospital at around 12:30am yesterday.
Sources close to the matter said the longest acting Ludzidzini governor’s death came as a shock to many, including family members as he was recuperating after undergoing an operation last week Thursday.
They said this was after Mtetwa, who had been in and out of hospital for quite some time, was rushed to the neighbouring country about three weeks ago as his health status deteriorated.
The demise of the first Swazi police commissioner, who chaired the recent Sibaya on delegation by His Majesty King Mswati III’s and made comments which became a source of amusement forever since, was confirmed by a number of his family members, some of whom were his children. However, because of his status in the country; which is working for the royalty, they could not say much on the matter.
It was gathered that senior members of the Mtetwa family yesterday went to deliver the sad news to Their Majesties at Ludzidzini Royal Residence.
One of Mtetwa’s brothers, Petros confirmed the sad news but said as a family there was nothing they could say regarding the statement’s demise because they had just reported it to Their Majesties, and they were still waiting for a response before they could publicly speak about it. “We cannot talk about it until we have received feedback that the matter has reached Their Majesties.”
He said he would be in a better position to comment after today because they were yet to meet as a family, where they would also discuss logistics of his funeral.
Meanwhile, Ludzidzini Council Secretary Chief Dambuza Lukhele said he had not received an official report about Mtetwa’s demise but only heard rumours that he had died.
