SERIAL RAPIST WHO SLIT OWN THROAT SENTENCED 42 YEARS

MANZINI – The rapist who would stab his victims before raping them and later slit his throat in an attempt to end his life while inside police holding cells, was yesterday sentenced to 42 years imprisonment without an option of a fine.

However, some of the rape, attempted rape and housebreaking sentences were ordered to run consecutively with others and Mbuso Mehlwemamba Mamba (31) of Bhanganomo will serve a total of 34 years. Mamba was admitted to the Mbabane Government Hospital after he slit his throat inside a cell at Bhunya Police Station. He committed the act after he was apprehended at Malkerns.

Safeguard

Mamba, who had been on the run for some time, was found by fire rangers who patrol and safeguard the forests. He attempted to kill himself at the police station after he was arrested for the attempted rape, rape and housebreaking offences. He was sentenced by Principal Magistrate David Khumalo yesterday afternoon. This was after one of the complainants, *Mary had informed the court that Mamba raped her after stabbing her in the mouth, shoulders and further threatened to stab her private parts during the act. *Mary (22) had people in tears and sighs when she led evidence during the trial of the rapist. She further stated that when she tried to raise the alarm by shouting, Mamba stabbed her in the mouth and she bled profusely. The complainant said she had been sleeping inside her house when she heard someone forcefully opening her door.

Naked

“She said when she used her cellphone to light up her room, she saw a completely naked man who was carrying a knife standing inside. “When I tried to escape, he charged towards me and stabbed me in the shoulders. I screamed and while shouting for help, he stabbed me in the mouth and forcefully got hold of me.” “He then pushed me to the bed while I was bleeding from the severe injuries, stripped  and raped  me,” Mary said. She also revealed that after Mamba had raped her, he further stabbed her on the chest and she eventually gave up fighting him as she had become weak. Mary said she was repeatedly raped by the offender, who was still carrying the knife. “After he had finished raping me, he escaped through the window still in his naked state. I tried crawling to my grandmother’s house and reported the incident. The police were called and I was taken to the hospital where I was examined and admitted,” Mary said
Another complainant, *Nomsa (16) of Luhleko, whom the offender had attempted to rape after stabbing her in the back and hands, told the court that  she also discovered that the rapist was inside her house during the evening.
