MANZINI – He left home with an alleged gangster neighbour who promised to take him out for a good time in Ezulwini and never came back.

Later on, the neighbour, who claimed to be his friend, was seen driving the missing man’s car and claimed that he sold it to him.
This is the mystery story of the disappearance of Bafana ‘Magents’ Shiba (22), a second year Southern Africa Nazarene University (SANU), Faculty of Education student.
Bafana was last seen at his parental home at Moyeni, Madonsa in Manzini at around 9pm last Thursday.

An impeccable source said according to the people who last saw him; his girlfriend and brother, in the afternoon, Bafana received a call from the neighbour who asked that they go out to Ezulwini. The source said at around 9pm, Bafana received a call from the same person alerting him that he was at his home and he told the neighbour that the door was open, he should get in.

However, the source said no one came in and Bafana, who was wearing a pair of shorts and sandals, went out of the house to see the neighbour.
Thereafter, the source said they heard his car driving away. He said they waited for him to come back but in vain and was unreachable as his mobile phone had been off since that night. Surprisingly, the source said on Saturday, Bafana’s family members saw his car; a VW Golf, being driven by the neighbour who left with him on the night he disappeared.

When they asked how come he was driving Bafana’s car, the source said he told them that he was the owner of the vehicle as Bafana had sold it to him for E40 000 on Thursday night while they were in Ezulwini.
“The man said after the transaction, Bafana asked that he drop him at his girlfriend’s place at Mnyamatsini with the cash,” the source said.
Bafana’s mother, Lindiwe Shiba, said they reported the matter to the police because despite that they did not trust the so-called friend, who allegedly confessed to the law enforcers that he was dealing in dagga, they also had too many unanswered questions.

“We do not know why the neighbour did not enter the house after Bafana told him that the door was open. Again, Bafana’s car keys were still with the bundle of keys belonging to him. If he had sold the car, he would have given him (neighbour) the keys,” she said.

She said according to Swazi MTN calls records, his call log reflected that he only made calls to his colleagues during the night of his disappearance before being called by the neighbour. Lindiwe said the police were still trying to locate the girlfriend’s homestead where his neighbour claimed to have left Bafana.
Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Khulani Mamba, confirmed the matter. He said the police were still investigating and asked anyone who could know Bafana’s whereabouts or has seen him to call the police on 999/9999 or officer Shabangu at 7604 3738.
