LOBAMBA – If you lose the newly introduced 64-page travel document, you should be prepared to pay E750 to replace it.

This was said by the Minister of Home Affairs, Princess Tsandzile, when delivering her ministerial statement at Senate yesterday where she officially introduced the new classes of travel documents which are already in circulation within immigration service centres countrywide.

The new classes include the 48-page document which cost E300 and citizens will have to part with E450 for a new application if they happen to lose or damage it.

As rightly reported by this newspaper in yesterday’s edition, the 64-page document costs E500 for a new application. The minister informed Senate that the 32-page document was still going to be available at the same cost of E80.

“In case of a lost travel document, the applicant is required to pay E120 for a replacement. This type of document is valid for a period of five years for minors under five years. Previously it was two years. For adults, it is 10 years,” she said.

The minister confirmed the reports that the stock levels of the 32-page document were currently depleted and that procurement processes were already in motion. “This means that applicants are currently obliged to apply for the new-48-page travel document,” she said.
Furthermore, Dlamini made it known that in line with international trends, considerations were being made to issue the 32-page travel document only to minors aged one day to 15-years of age in order to maximise usage.

She assured Senate that the prices of the travel documents were subsidised by government and apologised to the nation for the short notice.
