ROBBERS CAUGHT IN THE ACT AT MATSAMO TOTAL FILLING STATION
PIGG’S PEAK – Three thugs almost got away with E4 583 from Mdwali Total Filling Station situated at Matsamo, but one of them was nabbed with the loot.
The filling station, though situated in Swaziland, is popular to South African transport operators who take advantage of the cheaper fuel as compared to their country.
However, it has in the past been a target for criminals.
It is not the first time the filling station has been targeted, especially during the festive season but this time, security guards were ready.
In the latest attempted robbery, the thugs broke one of the windows in an attempt to access an office where the money is normally kept.
They are said to have arrived at the filling station at around 2am, hoping they would not be spotted by the security guards.
A manager at the filling station confirmed the attempted robbery and further revealed that it was not the first time they were being targeted. He said according to information obtained by security guards, the three men used a blunt object to break a window leading to the room where they believed the money had been kept.
The thugs opened a space large enough to allow one of them to enter the building.
Only one of the thugs is said to have entered the building while the other two remained outside, keeping watch. Upon entering, the thief ransacked one of the rooms and broke open the cupboard doors where he is said to have been looking for valuable items including the cash.
