LUBULI – It’s the best Christmas ever! That was the feeling among members of an extremely poor Ngcamphalala family of Lubuli area after enjoying a decent meal (rice and chicken stew) prepared by a good Samaritan.

The family also received food parcels, clothes and money from members of the public who learnt of the family’s plight through a very touching article that was published in this newspaper last week.
It was mentioned in the article that the Ngcamphalala family would prepare ligusha (vegetable jute) for Christmas lunch since they could not afford a decent meal.

However, it ended up being ‘the best Christmas ever’ for the Ngcamphalala family following overwhelming support from members of the public.
One good Samaritan, who asked not to be identified, donated clothes, food and further prepared a special meal for the Ngcamphalala family.
“This is delicious; our family last had chicken six months ago,” said Mkhulu Mtotfo Mphangwa Ngcamphalala (87), as he ravenously ate the meal.
He couldn’t stop thanking those who donated the food items and the media for exposing his family’s plight.

“I wish one day I can do something for all of you as a sign of appreciating what you have done for me and my family,” he said while being emotional.
He expressed excitement at the fact that the donated food items would last for some time and, as such, he won’t struggle with food for the next couple of months. His wife, Hlobisile Ngcamphalala, said she was happy that the family would no longer eat ligusha for Christmas lunch.
